Description

Welsh slate is widely regarded as the finest natural roofing slate in the world. Quarried from the ancient Cambrian deposits of North Wales—primarily Penrhyn (Heather Blue), Ffestiniog (Blue Grey), and Cwt-y-Bugail (Dark Blue Grey)—these slates offer unmatched durability, elegance, and heritage value. With a life expectancy exceeding 100 years, they are naturally fire-resistant, frost-proof, and impervious to water absorption.

Historical Information

Welsh slates feature three thickness grades: Capital Grade (5.5mm), County Grade (7mm), and Celtic Grade (9mm). Each slate is split by hand along its natural cleavage plane, resulting in exceptional flatness. Their dense geological structure ensures minimal maintenance, low water absorption, and moss resistance. Complies with BS EN 12326-1:2014 standards. Ideal for conservation areas and listed buildings.
