Historical Information

Staffordshire Blue Engineering Bricks have been the gold standard for structural and civil engineering applications for over a century. The unique dark blue-black colour is achieved by firing the clay at extremely high temperatures in a reduced oxygen atmosphere, creating a near-vitrified structure with exceptional strength and durability. These Class A engineering bricks are primarily used for critical structural elements including below damp-proof course applications in foundations and retaining walls, manholes and inspection pits for drainage and sewage structures, coping and capping for exposed wall locations, and groundworks including paving and kerbs subject to heavy wear. Their low water absorption and chemical resistance make them essential where standard bricks would fail.
